The Tapes was an idea born of a desire to collaborate with old friends. The idea of using old tapes is born out from the feeling that these little cartridges of captured magnetic information somehow embody the complete moment they capture. More than this, they carry the scars of history leading to this moment and beyond. (That was copied verbatim from what was written on the original Tapes release. What a bunch of nonsense. More follows….)

These six 'moodments' were each instigated by the magnetic imprints placed long ago onto a piece of tape. This magnetic memory has now been listened to by a mind machine, and then built upon using microphones and tools. (nonsense)

The results can be described as anything from pointless to hypnotic. (true)
